Īfter the acquisition, Liu joined Alibaba Group to become the head of its language business unit. Early investors included Xu Xiaoping, Anna Fang, Zhenfund, Sequoia China and CBC Capital. The platform had been operated by One Cloud Technologies until Alibaba announced its acquisition in August 2015. In 2011, Liu built the 365Fanyi ( 365翻译)/ Zuodao (做到) dual-site crowdsourcing platform, one of the earliest and largest Internet-based language services in China, and was selected to be a 2011 Ashoka Changemaker, the only finalist from the country. While in college, he was the managing editor of the campus daily, the Vassar Miscellany News. He attended high school at Shanghai High School and received his bachelor degree from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. In 2018, Liu was reported to join Mobike as President and in 2019 became its CEO. During that period Liu was also a member of LocWorld's advisory committee and a special advisor to Mobike. Between 20, Liu was the head of Alibaba Group's language business unit. He is also the awardee of the SUPRA Nordic scholarship, presented by the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies. Hong Yu is particularly honoured to receive the Marie Jahoda Visiting Fellowship from Digital Futures at Work Research Centre (Digit), University of Sussex. Dimitra Petrakaki (Sussex University Business School) and her colleagues on two research projects looking at the use of digital platforms in the healthcare sector and how crowdfunding creates challenges and opportunities for creative workers. His doctoral research project investigates the impact of new technology on work conditions and industrial relations in China’s internet industry.ĭuring his doctoral study, Hong Yu worked with Dr Bill Taylor (City University of Hong Kong) and his colleagues on a HK government-funded research project investigating the new unionism in Hong Kong (2020), and with the Childcare during COVID-19 research team at the Leeds University Business School as a Research Fellow (2022).
